Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty has been in impressive form this season, winning titles regularly. Although the season is over, the World No. 1 player is still winning awards.

Recently, Ashleigh Barty was conferred with the Newcombe Medal. It is awarded to players from the Australian tennis family each year for their performances and accomplishments each year.

Ashleigh Barty and Dylan Alcott deservedly win

Besides Barty, Australian wheelchair tennis player Dylan Alcott also bagged the medal. He won all four Grand Slam events this season and the gold at the Tokyo Paralympics, putting him in an undisputed league of his own.

The Newcombe Medal is usually awarded to only one player, but between Barty and Alcott, the decision was too difficult to make and both players deservedly shared the award. This is Barty’s record fourth time winning this prestigious award and the second time for Dylan.

Speaking on Ashleigh’s season, she won the Miami Open during the initial part of the season and followed that up with a title on clay in Stuttgart.

She then came to the All England Club and won her first Wimbledon title, cementing her ranking further at the top. Following that, she lost in the first match at the Tokyo Olympics.

Nonetheless, she bounced back and won the title in Cincinnati without dropping a set during the entire tournament. Although she skipped the Indian Wells, Billie Jean King Cup, and the WTA Finals, she still managed to end the year as the World’s top-ranked player.

Well, now that the season is over, we wish her and Dylan all the best in the preparations for the upcoming 2022 season and the Australian Open. It will be interesting to see if Barty features in any tournaments prior to the Happy Slam next year. All eyes will be on the World No. 1 player when she is seen on the courts again.
