There has been a lot of movement this summer in the transfer window, thanks to the major clubs trying to build up a new structure for their teams. One of such team is Manchester United. With the departures of players like Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra from the club this summer, United’s defense looked to be in great jeopardy as it has left the club with only three choices for their back line – Smalling, Jones and Evans; also the fourth addition Luke Shaw. However the United have been looking for defensive recruits the whole summer with names Vermaelen, Hummels, Blind and Benetia on their radar but unfortunately, they have been unsuccessful in luring even one of these.
Anyhow the United have recently made a bid for Argentina starlet Marcos Rojo United of an understood £15.9m, which meets the release clause of the defender. Also, as news suggests, just hours after United’s bid, Marcos Rojo was seen in with club officials, handing a transfer request in order to force a move to Old Trafford. As per BBC Sports, Rojo has informed his club, Sporting Lisbon, that he will no longer train with the team until the situation is resolved to his utmost benefit.
Rojo, aged 24, played as a left back in the World Cup for Argentina and helped his team achieve the runners up spot. Moreover he can also play as a centre back and will fit perfectly into the Louis Van Gaal’s 3-5-2 formation.
Considering the present condition of Manchester United’s defense line, the addition of Marcos Rojo to the teams will be highly beneficial. But looking back at the teams ‘performance’ in the transfer window this summer, all the United fans should keep their fingers crossed until Manchester United closes the deal.
