Every character in Apex Legends has a different playstyle, which comes down to their passive, tactical, and ultimate abilities. Mirage has always been a fun legend to play ever since Apex’s inception, especially for the distraction and confusion his decoys can cause.
The Holographic Trickster had to endure a tough start to life in the game as he was languishing among the weakest legends. However, a few buffs and a rework later, Mirage has gradually become a lot more powerful than his initial state. Most recently, the Season 7 update added more health to his decoys, making his tactical and ultimate more viable tools.

Besides being able to command his clones, the trickster can also remain cloaked when reviving and respawning teammates. Despite all the bamboozlement potential, experienced players counter Mirage’s tricks without much difficulty because of certain tells. Moreover, compared to some top-tier legends like Wraith and Bloodhound, the trickster remains a weak legend overall.
Recently, a player shared an interesting buff idea for Mirage’s passive, which, if implemented, could increase his usage rate and deception powers further. However, a dev’s response to the concept seems to suggest otherwise.

Apex Legends devs tested Mirage’s passive cloak while looting death boxes, but it didn’t do well
In a Reddit thread, u/danthemandoris suggested a buff that would allow Mirage to remain cloaked while looting death boxes. The player explained how it would add another fine trick to his arsenal and make him “the best shield swapper in the game”.
Even with the additional passive cloak, Mirage would still retain the tells that give him away, such as lights emitting from his arms when he is invisible. Therefore, the character would remain fairly balanced despite this buff.

The post drew a reply from Daniel Klein, who is the lead game designer for Apex Legends. His response shed light on why Mirage won’t receive the buff as they had already examined it before.
Klein said, “We tested this! It did not go well. Fun fact: there is such a thing as too much bamboozling.”
The dev explained that the majority of the time this extra passive did nothing apart from confusing the Mirage player themself. And when it worked, other players would simply get ambushed by an invisible trickster near loot boxes.

Now that a Respawn dev has confirmed they’ve already tested the concept, and it didn’t yield acceptable results, it’s safe to rule out the possibility of this passive buff for Mirage.
