Even though it’s only been a few days since the release of the Sanrio update 1.9.0 in Animal Crossing New Horizons, fans are already waiting for the next patch. The 1.9.0 update has provided some new content, such as new furniture, updates on the Design Pro app. But many aren’t considering it a major update that can attract fans back into the game. While that may be true to a degree, many also believe that it’s a sign of a massive update arriving in the game soon.

In 2021, the game has had three updates from 1.7.0 to 1.9.0. The rate of updates in 2021 is much higher than last year when the game had longer gaps between updates. But the 2020 updates were larger, which included a lot of content from the franchise’s previous iterations.

In 2020, the game received drastic updates in gameplay, such as swimming and diving, and also added two new shops with Leafy and Red. Then, later on, the game also received the Fireworks show update and Dreaming, which was a long-time request from the fans.

In 2021, the updates have only included minor events such as The Festivale, which was a one-day event. Other updates included Mario and Sanrio items but did not have any new features for fans to keep coming back to the game.

With not much content arriving in the first three updates of the year, this might be a major sign that the developers are holding on to massive features for a major update. Additional features that affect the gameplay and the art style significantly usually arrive with major updates.

Next update possibly version 2.0

The Mario and Sanrio updates are the most recent ones in New Horizons. The gap between the two was only around a month, and the content in both wasn’t really extensive in nature. So it wouldn’t have been a massive change for the developers to release updates 1.8.0 and 1.9.0 as a single package.

But doing this would mean that the game’s next update would become 1.9.0 and not 2.0. Usually, in in-game development, a massive update will have a shift in the version from 1 to 2 or 3. This means that by delaying the Sanrio update to 1.9.0, the developers are making sure that the next major update will have the 2.0 version. While there are chances that the developers might release another small update with 1.10, the possibility of a 2.0 update is much higher.
