The new Animal Crossing series named New Horizon has been a massive hit. Nintendo’s latest venture is not only a hit but is one of their biggest success stories. It now stands third in Nintendo’s list of games in terms of the physical copies sold. It has just been over a month since it released on March 20. While users are happy with just about everything, there is one glaring issue that is causing a bit of an uproar.
Back in 2018, Nintendo announced it was introducing cloud saves on Switch. With Cloud Saves, players no longer had to worry about their save files, since they would automatically be backed up online. So if anything were to happen to your device, your saved games would still survive. Naturally, a ton of Switch users took to the service that safeguarded all their progress.

Animal Crossing Needs Cloud Save
The Switch online services provide features like cloud saves, hence users expect all major games to support it. And if Animal Crossing isn’t a major game, there aren’t any.
And this is where the issue lies for Animal Crossing; it does not support cloud saves. Understandably, this has miffed many users.
If you think about it, this game needs cloud saves more than any other. users dedicate hours on end as they build up their islands. Who would want to lose all their progress if something were to happen to their device?
The game simulates the real passage of time by making use of the device’s internal clock and calendar. The problem is, the real-time can be manipulated using cloud saves. During an interview in 2019, Animal Crossing Producer Higashi Nogami explained the reason behind this.

“New Horizons will not be compatible with cloud backups to avoid manipulating time, which remains one of the founding concepts of the series.”
While this is valid reasoning, it simply does not do justice to the millions of honest gamers out there. A fan even started a petition on change.org, demanding Nintendo make this feature available. Unsurprisingly, a ton of users signed it.
Nintendo assured fans that it would come up with a system to rectify this issue, but nothing of the sort has happened yet.

The developers really need to make this a priority, given just how massive the user base is for the game. It is also rather unfair for those who have paid for the Nintendo online services.
