Animal Crossing: New Horizons became a game-changer for the popular Nintendo franchise when it arrived last year. The Switch title has become a fan-favorite among the massive community after it introduced a lot of new features. While many of the series’ old characters and items returned with New Horizons, the developers also added in a ton of Quality of Life updates to make players’ lives easier.
However, not every change has received positive reviews from the game’s humongous community. Recently, players talked about one of the title’s most annoying mechanic that they have to adjust to all the time, and here’s how you can avoid it from happening.

The broken picking mechanic in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Every day Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have a lot of items to pick on their Island. From fallen fruits to sticks, players can find a lot of items lying on the floor for them to pick. However, Animal Crossing: New Horizons poses a lot of challenges for such a straightforward task as the mechanic prevents them from doing their job easily. This is because players accidentally do something else instead of selecting and picking up the stuff.
Currently, if players try to pick something and accidentally don’t select the item, then it will edit paths that are near them. This removes an integral part of the player’s pathways that they have taken hours to design. After creating such a mess, they have to add it again by going to custom designs. Players have complained for a long time that the game should have a construction mode to prevent this from happening.

How to pick items properly?
However, players do have a solution that can prevent them from removing these pathways inadvertently. If they want to pick any items, then they should stand on top of it and wait for some moments. Once the little bubble with the item’s name pops up, they can then press Y to avoid removing pathways. It takes a bit more time, but it makes their life easier and it even saves some time by not demolishing the small path.

The Animal Crossing community has begged with the developers to add a construction mode for preventing mistakes like these. However, until then, players can use this minor solution for a headache inducing problem like this.
