Nintendo introduced many popular characters to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the 2.0 update. Among those, Kapp’n was another popular character and players loved his return. However, after the release of the 2.0.4 update Kapp’n’s importance in ACNH has reduced significantly.
Many users thought that the 2.0.4 update was a minor update released to remove some in-game bugs. Surprisingly, it was later discovered that it also added some brand new content to improve user experience. Continue reading why Nintendo accidentally made Kapp’n useless in New Horizons.

Kapp’n’s role is pointless after the 2.04 update in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
With the 2.0.4 update, Nintendo added new zodiac items for players to collect. In addition to that, it also added new mechanics where players can find Gyroid fragments washed up on the shore of their beaches. Several players are loving this feature as they can collect more Gyroid fragments each day.
However, because of this feature, Kapp’n has lost his importance in New Horizons. Before the 2.0.4 update, players would only travel on Kapp’n’s boat to collect glowing moss and Gyroid fragments. Furthermore, they also have to spend 1,000 Nook Mile tickets for each tour, which is very expensive.

Therefore, many players will avoid traveling on Kapp’n’s boat, as they can now easily collect Gyroid fragments on their beaches. In previous titles, Kapp’n used to take users to mini-game islands and multiplayer islands. This made players love Kapp’n for various reasons; however, in New Horizons, his role is to take them to mystery islands only.
Naturally, not all players could afford to spend 1,000 Nook Mile Tickets every day. Regardless, if you are interested in collecting mystery island items, then you should spend your tickets with no worries. Other than that, make sure to always clean shores for your beaches before logging off, as it will improve your chances of gaining more fragments the next day.
