Nintendo disappointed various players with its E3 2021 showcase as it left out Animal Crossing: New Horizons from the event. The setback started an unfortunate discussion around the game’s future. Nintendo hasn’t introduced any major updates to the game in the recent past. Therefore, many players have argued that the game is now slowly dying.
Clearly, to save the game from dying, Animal Crossing: New Horizons enthusiasts are trying to come up with new ideas. One of the most popular of these ideas is the suggestion to borrow from previous editions of the franchise. Interestingly, Animal Crossing: New Leaf had some wonderful provisions that Nintendo could introduce in ACNH.

One of the most fascinating features of New Leaf was the lockers. ACNH offers vast item storage to players. However, they can only access this storage from their homes. While they can access their wardrobe from anywhere on the island, items still remain inaccessible in this manner. Therefore, Nintendo can introduce the New Leaf lockers that allow players to access their inventories from various places across their island.
Another feature that Animal Crossing: New Horizons can borrow from New Leaf is the ores. Currently, ACNH only has gold nuggets that players can get when they mine rocks. However, New Leaf offered a variety of ores such as ruby, emerald, and more. Players can use these in ACNH to craft exclusive items.
ACNH offers a variety of clothes that players can use to express their fashion. However, they cannot wear all of these at once. The game currently offers mannequins, but they can only be used to display one piece of clothing instead of the complete outfit. Therefore, Nintendo can add displays similar to those in New Leaf, which allow players to showcase various designs.

Other New Leaf updates Nintendo could introduce
New Leaf offered players the ability to customize the purpose and identity of their islands using ordinances. Right now, the only purpose ACNH players have is to have the best possible island layout. This does make the game boring after a certain time. However, if they had ordinances like ‘keep your town beautiful’, ‘early bird’, ‘night owl’, it would certainly make things interesting.

Ultimately, whether the changes are inspired by New Life or are totally new, Nintendo needs to ensure new things arrive at Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game has single-handedly driven the sales of the Nintendo Switch, and the Japanese company wouldn’t want to lose that momentum.
