For starters, there are two ways to purchase Pumpkin Starts, or seeds, to begin farming. Players can buy the seeds from Leif’s Flower Shop when he’s randomly visiting their islands. Else, Pumping Starts are also on sale at Nook’s Cranny for the entire duration of October.
Obviously, to start growing pumpkins, the Pumpkin Starts need to be planted first. Here are a few essential points for growing and harvesting pumpkins to eventually craft the spooky items.
- Pumpkins can grow in four different colors, but the color is chosen randomly. Orange pumpkins are by far the most common. Meanwhile, yellow, white, and green pumpkins are quite rare comparatively.
- There is no limit to how many pumpkins a player can farm. It takes 4 days for a pumpkin to grow fully. Players don’t need to water Pumpkin Starts for them to raise at least one pumpkin. However, watering the plant every day until fully grown will produce a maximum of 3 pumpkins. If not watered as frequently, the Pumpkin Start will instead give rise to one or two pumpkins in its final stage.
- Harvesting the pumpkins on the fourth day of the growing cycle reverts the plant to the second stage. Therefore, leaving two more days until it produces the next batch of pumpkins, depending on how much a player waters them.
- Players can replant harvested pumpkins of the desired color to produce more of that specific type. Therefore, planting the first rare colored harvested pumpkin will guarantee them even more pumpkins of that particular color.
