Nintendo has released its financial figures for the April-June quarter and numbers are noteworthy. Nintendo has reported an increase in operating profit 428 percent year-on-year to 145 billion yen ($1.37 billion) off 357 billion yen ($3.39 billion) in revenue. Switch sales have increased by 166 percent landing the figure at 5.68 million systems in a single quarter. This brings up the total of Nintendo Switch’s sale to 61.44 million units. Nonetheless, the highlight is on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game has sold 10 million-plus units in this usually quiet quarter. All in all, it has surpassed the quarterly sale of Nintendo’s all-time best selling title: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. As a result, it now stands second to the classic racer title in the all time biggest sellers list.

Animal Crossing’s staggering sales suggest that the title has provided Nintendo with a new opening. It has boosted Switch sales in an unprecedented manner. The COVID-19 outbreak had affected the sales since the pandemic showed up last December. Even so, Nintendo reports suggest the situation has been recovered. All thanks to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Nintendo is all praise for the game in their official statements, “Demand for this new proposal from Nintendo of exercising by playing an adventure game was so much higher than our forecasts that the global supply has been unable to keep up since release.” Futhermore, Nintendo reports that it has been difficult for them to keep up with the huge demands. The pandemic has crippled the market but the Kyoto based company promises to ship out a big bulk before the holiday season.

Animal Crossing vs other Switch titles

Animal Crossing: New Horizons remains a clear winner as Nintendo eyes to end the fiscal year with 19 million plus sale and an $11.36 billion revenue from console units. Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition has sold 1.32 million units. The classic Super Smash Bros has also staggered up sales of approximately 1.20 million units. Next in line for Nintendo is The Crown Tundra, which will be the second DLC to release for Pokemon Sword Expansion Pass. The last released major title is Paper Mario: The Origami King which came out a month prior.
