Besides the likes of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic, there is a new set of players who have entered their club. Players such as Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Daniil Medvedev have been knocking on their doors. Germany’s Alexander Zverev has also shown glimpses of his capabilities.
Taking the last season into account, the Austrian Dominic Thiem and Russia’s Daniil Medvedev have made a name for themselves. Amongst the new crop of players, Thiem emerged as the first person to win a major this year at the US Open. He beat Zverev in the final coming back from two sets down. To have two new faces compete for a grand slam is an indication of the next generation taking up the mantle.

Recently, former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash expressed his opinion on who he finds interesting amongst the new ones on tour. He said, “I think Stefanos Tsitsipas is an interesting person. There are always personalities. When someone plays something different, people get excited. And Tsitsipas sure is one of them.”
The Australian also had two other players who caught his attention. He also has a liking for players who strike the ball with firmness and is a fan of the single-handed backhand. He mentioned, “Dominic Thiem is exciting in a different way because he hits the ball extremely hard. Shapovalov is also an exciting player who loves to get online. Hmm, they all play one-handed backhand, right?”
In 2020, Stefanos Tsitsipas made it to the semifinal of the French Open. Prior to that, he won the ATP Finals held in London back in 2019. He’s also beaten Roger Federer at the 2019 Australian Open.
