It has been more than a year since the 23-time Grand Slam, Serena Williams got on-board to the journey of motherhood. The feelings of joy and happiness are absolutely different for Williams than what she feels while winning on the court. “It’s really great,” said Serena. “I love both Alexis’s. I am really happy to have both of them in my life, it’s just a totally different world, a totally different life.” Williams’ daughter’s birthday was not celebrated on the first of September when Olympia turned one. Williams reported, “Olympia doesn’t celebrate birthdays. We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses, so we don’t do that.”
For delivering a baby it was almost a life-threatening experience for Williams. As she said, “I almost died after giving birth to my daughter, Olympia.” Serena considers herself to be fortunate enough to live like a regular individual post her delivery. Williams also expressed her views on carrying a baby and how the world understands it. “I think society puts it out there that you’ll just kind of snap back and that’s just a myth. I feel like it’s important for women to know that it doesn’t happen like that in the Instagram world. But in the real world, it takes a while for your body to come back. Especially after a C-section, I think it takes a little bit longer.”
Serena shared numerous instances for parenting in the 5th Annual Imagine Ball Honoring Serena Williams Benefiting Imagine LA. Many parents found to relate to what she said, “It’s been so hard balancing being a mom and starting my clothing line, as well as playing a professional sport! However, it is the challenge that makes it fun!” Williams said. She also pointed out the changes which a baby undergoes. She cherishes each and every moment and changes happening to Olympia. “I have spent every day with Olympia since she was born, and one of the latest challenges has been her teething. I’m sure a lot of parents can relate. A milestone has been her walking — I get a good workout chasing her around the house!”
