Every tournament has its trophy and the rules surrounding it are also different. And trophies awarded in the Grand Slams are special. A hard gritty tournament played over 2 weeks against 128 players so the trophy has to show the worth of this dedication and hard work. And the upcoming US Open also has a great trophy.

Both the men singles and women singles trophy is made up of sterling silver. And the trophies have two handles on the sides. Also, USTA’s earlier name and the full name of the US Open is also engraved on the trophy. And the runner ups in all the categories get a sterling silver plate as a trophy. So with extreme craftsmanship, the silversmiths create these trophies with precision.

The iconic US Open trophy has been lifted a record 5 times by three men’s singles players. Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, and Jimmy Connors. On the women’s side, Chris Evert and Serena Williams have lifted the US Open a record 6 times.

Who makes the US Open trophies?

Luxury jewelry maker Tiffany and co have been making the trophies every year since 1987. They make over 60 trophies for the USTA.

Do the players get to take the original trophies?

No. The players don’t take the original trophies. In the other three Grand Slams players are given a replica 3/4th of the original trophy’s size. But in the US Open, the players are given the replica with the same dimensions as the original trophy.

The US Open 2020 will start on the 31st of August. This time the US Open is a bit different due to the pandemic. The main change is that matches will take place behind closed doors. Players will be kept in a bubble, less travel, and restrictions on movement.

Both the defending champions, Rafael Nadal and Bianca Andreescu have withdrawn from the US Open this year which is going to commence from August 31. And with a lot of big names missing from the draw, we might see some unexpected champions lifting the famous old trophy.
