Animal Crossing: New Horizons have introduced May Day to commemorate International Workers Day. It marks the latest in the new range of events coming to your island over the next month or so. The May Day event running from May 1-7 is a recognition of the beginning of the month, and the hard work players have put in.
How Does Animal Crossing: New Horizons May Day Tour Work?
Players can speak to Tom Nook in Resident Services between May 1-7, to receive information about the May Day Tour. Tom Nook describes the event is meant to acknowledge all the hard workers and praises them. Particularly those that have worked hard to make their islands more appealing. But players need to know a few things about the trip, which is different than the usual ones for a few reasons.
Players Go On Tour Empty-Handed
Upon reaching the airport, Orville tells the players about the availability of a May Day Ticket and tells them how to use the ticket. He further reminds players that they can’t take anything they had in their pockets with them when players opt for going on the Animal Crossing May Day Tour. Orville also ensures holding onto their belongings at the counter and will return them as a player returns from the tour.
It means players can neither take anything with them to the May Day Tour nor can they bring anything back. However, some particular items collected during the trip will be waiting in their mailbox when they return home to their respective islands.
No Tools At The New Animal Crossing Destination
After arriving at the unique May Day Tour island destination, Wilbur informs the players that this new mystery island is a giant maze, and they’ve got to make their way through it. He also reminds players that they can’t purchase tools from him.
Players must make their way through the May Day Tour island using what they pick up. It means navigating the giant maze only using a shovel and an ax. Players will immediately pick up their shovel, whereas, for the ax, they have to craft it after comprehending how to obtain the required resources and a workbench.
Figure Your Way Through The Maze
The May Day Tour island is a giant maze built out of hedges which consists of a series of puzzles. Players need to uproot trees, shrubs, and rocks, to access every section of the maze to accumulate necessary resources, like wood, tree branches, fruit, and iron nuggets.
After acquiring the required resources and then crafting an ax, players must utilize it to chop down trees. Use the shovel to dig up bush stumps. Players will need at least three fruit to access the final square section of the maze. The rewards for completing the puzzle are five Bell Vouchers, each worth $3,000 Bells, and players can redeem those at Nook’s Cranny.
Players Meet A Special Guest
The purpose of the May Day Tour is to complete the maze by reaching its end. After that, Rover, the vagabond cat, will greet players. He informs that Tom Nook invited him to the tour island, briefly introduces himself, and asks the player questions about their name and island. Rover then presents the player with a reward: Rover’s briefcase.

Orville prompts players to check their mail for the Bell Vouchers and the special reward they received on the island. He then sends them through.
If the player returns to Resident Services to chat with Tom Nook, he asks how the tour went, acknowledging them once more for their hard work on the island. Moreover, neither does he reveal anything about Rover, nor does he offer the player any extra information or rewards.
