Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 has now been officially branded, Alfa Romeo Racing. According to Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, the outfit are now promising a surprise in store with regard to the design of its 2019 car.
The authoritative sports newspaper claims the new Alfa will have a radical shape as it has been designed with “as little caution as possible”.
It also claimed that team boss Frederic Vasseur has gone on a recruiting spree over the winter period. This is mostly thanks in part to the collaboration with Ferrari and the signing of Kimi Raikkonen.

The 2019 Sauber has been designed by former Ferrari designer Simone Resta, and will reportedly feature “interesting innovations” not seen on any other F1 car so far.
La Gazzetta dello Sport also said Finn Raikkonen was seen at Sauber’s Hinwil factory several times in January.
It was also interesting to note that it was Kimi Raikkonen who initiated first contact with Sauber. Under normal circumstances, it would be the team who would have to pursue the driver.
But it is clear that Raikkonen is much happier as he is free to just drive and not worry about any championship. Back in 2018, many wondered if Kimi Raikkonen should still be racing, as Sebastian Vettel was much faster than him.

However, the 2007 World Champion proved his critics wrong, especially with his spectacular drive in Austin. It was his first win in nearly five years and everyone was ecstatic. As an added bonus, it also meant that Lewis Hamilton’s title celebrations had to be postponed by one more race.
Alfa Romeo could be a dark horse with a driver of Raikkonen’s calibre behind the wheel. Also, one must not forget his teammate, Antonio Giovinazzi, who will be hungry to earn as many points as possible.
