Bethesda had finally announced a new IP after 25 years at E3 2018 with Starfield. However, it took the studio two long years to reveal anything more on the title. Fortunately, the Xbox and Bethesda showcase at E3 2021 finally delivered on that front as a new Starfield trailer dropped along with the launch date.
Bethesda shocked fans when the trailer said that Starfield is going to be an Xbox exclusive. While it was great news for those who have a Windows PC and a Microsoft console, PlayStation players got nothing. Ever since Bethesda partnered up with Microsoft, it was a great fear of fans that all future titles from the publisher are going to be Xbox exclusives. Unfortunately, these fears are slowly coming true.

Following Starfield, the biggest project Bethesda has lined up to release is The Elder Scrolls 6. Since Starfield is now an Xbox exclusive, it is fair for fans to assume that the developers might have similar plans for TES6. Not only is Starfield an example, but several executives from Bethesda have also hinted towards the same.
Bethesda Director Todd Howard had previously said that the studio wants to focus on as few platforms as possible. With the pandemic still around, the publisher wants to deliver the best to gamers in as little time as possible. This means they want to avoid making a version of their games for the PlayStation.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is going to be the 6th main entry in the series following Skyrim that came out in 2011. The fans have been waiting for a new title for over a decade, and when they finally get one, it would be disappointing if it turns out to be an Xbox exclusive. However, given the fanbase surrounding The Ender Scrolls series, Microsoft will sell a lot more Series X|S consoles if it makes TES6 an exclusive title.

Bethesda VP apologizes for Starfield
In a recent interview with GameSpot, Bethesda Senior VP, Pete Hines, talked about the exclusivity of Starfield. He compared the upcoming title to similar PlayStation exclusives and how Sony focuses only on its consoles. Therefore, it makes sense that Microsoft and Bethesda would also focus only on the Xbox.
However, he knows how many fans Bethesda disappointed by making Starfield and exclusive. Regardless of understanding how PlayStation players might feel, all Hines could offer was a few words of consolation.

“I don’t know how to allay the fears and concerns of PlayStation 5 fans, other than to say, ‘I’m a PlayStation 5 player as well, and I’ve played games on that console, and there’s games I’m going to continue to play on it. But if you want to play Starfield, [it’s] PC and Xbox. Sorry. All I can really say is, I apologize.”
