Last year at the start of the season the Cleveland Brown and the 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk got into a heated pregame scuffle. On the other side was the Browns’ safety Grant Delpit and there was a slight show of hands there. But Deebo Samuel couldn’t see his teammate get violated and stepped in with aggression.
The 49ers WR head-butted the Browns player, Juan Thornhill, and this just got worse after that. The 49ers captain clarified the past scuffles on Netflix’s recent NFL-centric series “Receiver.” There was also a huge back-and-forth on X and it’s safe to say that the next game with Brown’s might be a heated exchange transcending way beyond touchdowns.
“It was just weird because we was all just vibing and whatnot and then you know, my guy, my guy Brandon, he up and ready for all the games and whatever. You know, we just talking junk, this that, and the third and I just see a guy walk up on him and like, get in his face,” said Samuel as the episode shows the moment where it all went haywire.

The high-intensity head-butting came to a point where a small scuffle was going to turn into a brawl. “At the end of the day, I’m gonna do whatever it is to protect my team. I didn’t throw a punch, because you get fined or ejected. So I threw a little headbutt,” added Deebo Samuel.
Later on, the referee tried to knock some sense into Samuel and his team. But what followed on social media became the highlight of the moment. We could see how angry he was when he headbutted the Browns’ safety Juan Thornhill and Trent Williams came into the frame, trying to save his teammates from the violation.
But what followed on social media became the highlight of the moment and a few other things came out that might solidify this rivalry for the times to come.

The player who started the social media war wasn’t with the Browns in any capacity. We’re talking about CJ Gardner Johnson, the safe for the Philadelphia Eagles who took to X and said, “U see Deeboo Run. Typical WR behavior,” and added,” THEN ACT HARD WHEN TRENT SAVE HIM.” Samuel couldn’t stand the violation coming from a player who didn’t have to do anything with the scuffle and made things personal.

“Boy stop playing before you get a rewind of this….. boy sit down,” Samuel said. Meanwhile the Browns were sitting in the corner laughing at all of this because they had something that might have irked the 49ers even more. They walked out to the 49ers patented boombox walkout and even challenged the Niners squad to take legal action about it. It was Greg Newsome, the Browns CB who uploaded the video on X two days later.

That game was one of their four losses in the last season, and it was a close one. The Niners lost 19-17 and there wasn’t much a frustrated Brock Purdy could do about the whole thing. Purdy went 125 yards over 12 of his 27 completed passes with one touchdown but also got intercepted once.
Browns defense is nothing to play with and they made that statement in the game itself. So, the question is, are we going to see chapter 2 of this rivalry any time soon? Because the 49ers aren’t playing the Browns in the regular season. The only way for this heated exchange to take place is in the playoff game.
