AEW never misses an opportunity to mock WWE. As seen on the New Year’s Smash on AEW Dynamite, Cody Rhodes joined in on the fun.

On the pre-show of Dynamite, the hosts were talking about how Rhodes (with special guest Snoop Dogg) is going to face Matt Sydal for the first time. Rhodes arrived soon after and cracked a hilarious reference to old school WWE.

He said, “we’re live pal, 100 bucks if you know what I’m referencing.” Although both the hosts knew the reference, they could not say it on-air.

Rhodes then went on and gave some hint about how AEW commentator Jim Ross was also involved in the reference. “Long story short, there was a guy who did not know it was live, and said ‘can I redo it?’ and J.R had to say ‘we are live pal!”

Rhodes also gave an added hint of how that guy was a little ‘psycho.’ See the hilarious backstage video below –

For those who still don’t know, Cody was referencing a Raw interview from the 1990s. Jim Ross was interviewing Sycho Sid. As Ross asked Sid about his thoughts on the sceptics, Sid fumbled and blundered on-air.

A few years ago, WWE even featured the moment in their top 10 mic mishaps. See the moment below –

Cody Rhodes paid an emotional tribute to Brodie Lee on the last AEW Dynamite

After the unfortunate demise of Brodie Lee, AEW EVP and Lee’s last opponent, Cody Rhodes, delivered an emotional tribute.

He said, “There has never been a wrestler in every company, in every locker room, with every member of management who had that one-to-one connection, and that is why everyone is affected so deeply.”

Rhodes then introduced Lee’s son and wife to the crowd. They brought Brodie’s wrestling boots and placed them in the ring.
