AEW has been doing pretty well and has a considerable lead over NXT in the Wednesday Night War. Staying above water, the promotion has proved that it is more than capable of handling the competition.

However, there seems to be a lot of criticism revolving around WWE’s rival. Fans are constantly bringing up the fact that most of AEW’s current Champions are former WWE Superstars.

Brodie Lee, Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, and Cody were all in WWE once. While this isn’t really much of a problem, Tony Khan did promise fans that there were going to be new AEW bred wrestlers making an impact on the brand.

That promise has not been kept so far. In fact, yet another former WWE Superstar, Matt Sydal, made his AEW debut at All Out. The question must now be asked anyhow- Can AEW produce stars of its own?

Ever since the company began rising with Dynamite, it used former WWE Superstars to reach to the heights they need.

This was understandable, as most new promotions have to do this in order to get views. It was also like a lesson to WWE. AEW used Superstars that never got a chance in WWE and made them shine and reach their true potential under its roof.

Although, it has started to become evident that these former WWE Superstars are AEW’s main game, and not just a card to be played. Brodie Lee’s major title push stood as a testament to this.

AEW has its own stars, but not too many of them

The promotion has brought a lot of its own stars to light. Orange Cassidy, Hikaru Shida, Darby Allin, and Abadon are examples of pure AEW stars. However, this isn’t enough.

AEW is banking on the pillars of Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, and Cody Rhodes. Its constant intake of former WWE Superstars is great to see, but this isn’t sitting too well with a lot of fans.

AEW needs its own NXT. Maybe not a separate brand, but the point is that they need to breed more of their own Superstars and give them title shots. The promotion must not make the mistake of banking on the same Superstars throughout.

I am among the fans who wish to see some fresh faces in AEW that haven’t been seen previously in WWE. Tony Khan will have to do some serious thinking about this before it’s too late.
