CM Punk debuting at AEW Rampage broke the internet. Everyone was pumped, the AEW Universe was on cloud nine, and all of Punk’s fans were ecstatic! Of course, it was a great day for the company.

However, Punk had the choice to return to wrestling in any company. He specifically chose AEW for a special reason, a reason that lies not in the ring but in the locker room.

“One of the big things that turned me onto them is, unfortunately, the wrestling world lost Brody Lee. But his sickness and everything that came with it was known in the company but they kept it so secret. And the wrestlers will always tell you that oh the boys, we’re a big family, we care about each other. None of that is entirely true. But, to see everyone in the company band together just to keep a secret about somebody’s health, I was blown away by that. There’s something to that locker room.”

The fact that he brought up health isn’t shocking. He left WWE years ago because he realized the company doesn’t care about his health. In fact, he was infuriated when the WWE doctors misdiagnosed him and cleared him to return to the ring.

He brought up this point during his debut speech as well when he apologized to anyone who had been affected by his choices.

CM Punk believes AEW has a unique energy

Keeping aside the locker room brotherhood, Punk believes that AEW is a young company, but it’s an enthusiastic company. The pro-wrestlers want to learn and soak in as much experience as possible, and that is another factor.

“It kinda helped breathe life back into my love for professional wrestling. I see this young company that is full of what I call punk rock youthful exuberance. Rough around the edges but so eager to learn and soak everything they possibly can. It’s new and it’s exciting.”
