Jim Ross was discussing the ongoing ratings war with WWE’s developmental brand. He talked about how WWE CEO Vince McMahon is trying to get AEW to stumble and lose the race to his company.
AEW presents itself as an alternative to WWE, not a competitor. “How’s that working?” Ross asked. “How’s that brilliant evil strategy?”
The legendary commentator was bullied out of the company by Vince McMahon. He suffers from an ailment called Bell’s Palsy, which became a subject of ridicule in the company.
He returned in the early 2010s, but retired in 2014. JR was even inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. He commentated many important matches that included Undertaker vs Triple H and Roman Reigns vs Undertaker.
“Going head to head is good in a boardroom, it’s good in a rah-rah meeting, but at the end of the day, you bring more people to a television set that are wrestling fans at 8 o’ clock eastern time on Wednesday night because you’ve got two brands now that the audience can sample,” said Ross.
