AEW has been hinting at the return of CM Punk for a few weeks now. They have dropped multiple hints through their promos and superstars’ outfits. Now we have another big hint about this much-anticipated return.
All signs are pointing to this Friday’s AEW Rampage at the United Center in Punk’s hometown of Chicago. Now Fightful Select has learned some official details. According to the report, officials are already preparing for the former WWE Champion‘s return.
“Fightful spoke with multiple people involved with WarnerMedia and TNT, who spoke of the excitement of bringing in CM Punk, and noted that he’ll have their promotional machine behind him upon his return,” Sean Ross Sapp wrote.

“We weren’t told what exactly that would entail, but were told that TNT and WarnerMedia were both ‘very aware’ of this,” he noted. This is the first time when sources directly associated with TNT and WarnerMedia have issued a statement.

AEW has been dropping major hints about CM Punk lately
The first clue was when Tony Khan announced that the second episode of AEW Rampage will air live from Chicago. After that, Darby Allin cut a promo about wanting to fight the “Best in the World,” which used Punk’s moniker back in the day.
Then Kenny Omega wore a ‘Cookie Monster’ t-shirt from Sesame Street. The name ‘Cookie Monster’ was rumored to be the meaning behind the CM of Punk’s name. MJF cut a pipe-bomb-esque promo on Chris Jericho.

This week, Omega sported a ‘Chick Magnet’ t-shirt, which is the real meaning of CM of Punk’s name. AEW broadcasters have also proudly aired loud ‘CM Punk’ chants, unlike WWE. Punk’s old employer edits out the chants per their requirement.
All these things hint at the fact that AEW is not shying away from accepting the rumors. They are even encouraging their top stars to indulge in the game with their outfits and words.
This week, all eyes will be on AEW. If CM Punk shows up, it would be his first pro wrestling appearance since 2014, when he left WWE.
