Impact Wrestling and NJPW’s colour commentator Don Callis made his first AEW appearance, joining the commentary team for Kenny Omega vs Hangman Page. The choice of match for Callis’ appearance makes the most sense, given Callis’ history with Omega in New Japan and Canada.

Don Callis was a former wrestler from Winnipeg, Manitoba and eventually transitioned to a full time commentator. He is an executive for Impact Wrestling currently, while also doing his duties as a commentator.
Don Callis and Kenny Omega go way back to their days in Winnipeg as both men looked to solidify their careers in the world of wrestling. Callis made some important and distinct calls during the match against Page, about how Kenny Omega had a tryout with the National Hockey League but chose to become a professional wrestler.

The iconic commentator has called some of Kenny Omega’s greatest matches in New Japan Pro Wrestling. He called Omega’s first G1 Climax victory in 2016 and his 6-star Wrestle Kingdom main event against Kazuchika Okada. In fact, Callis called every match between Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada.
Could his presence be a prelude to the return of the Cleaner?
Don Callis’ appearance in AEW could mean a myriad of things for the future of Kenny Omega. After losing the AEW Tag Team Championships to FTR, Omega decided to pursue his singles career and bring an end to his stint in the tag division.
After the loss at All Out, Omega started displaying some heelish tendencies. He gave viewers a teaser into a potential gimmick change on the Being the Elite YouTube channel as well.
Kenny seemed hellbent on bringing back the Cleaner persona. It was this persona that made him one of the most successful wrestlers in the world.
It was Don Callis who was the voice of Kenny Omega’s matches. Watch the way he calls Kenny Omega’s victory over Kazuchika Okada at NJPW Dominion in 2018. You can hear the happiness and sheer joy for Kenny Omega finally beating Okada and winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

Kenny Omega beat Hangman Page in a Number One Contenders match at Full Gear. The match was full of fast-paced action, hard-hitting offence, slick counters and one match winning One Winged Angel. Callis was not a very strong presence on commentary. However, his role was much greater than that of a simple commentator.
Could Callis’ presence be another teaser into Omega’s transition from a babyface to the vicious Cleaner that made him the best wrestler in the world?
