AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida completed one year of her reign as the champion. She is the longest-reigning women’s champion and the longest-reigning champion across all divisions in AEW history.

Shida is the second champion of the title, while Nyla Rose was the inaugural champion. Shida defeated Rose at last year’s Double or Nothing PPV in a no-count-out, no disqualification match.

As we mentioned earlier, Shida is also the longest-reigning overall champion in AEW History. Before her, the previous record was of 277 days set by former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.

AEW congratulated Shida on her career milestone. They have also announced that on this Friday’s special AEW Dynamite, the promotion will honor Shida and the one-year reign.

Hikaru Shida sends a message following the record-breaking reign

After the news broke out, the 32-year-old took to Instagram to express her gratitude. In the 1-minute long IGTV video, Shida talked about various things.

“One year ago, I won the AEW Women’s title,” said Shida. “Thank you so much for your supports one year. “I’ve been able to believe in myself because of many people who have been believing in me. I promise to do my best all the time. See you at the next AEW and Double or Nothing.”

She also spoke to her Japanese fan base after she thanked the international ones. Shida will defend her title against Dr. Britt Baker DMD at the upcoming AEW Double or Nothing.

AEW fans were not far behind in celebrating the champ’s milestone. Many took to Twitter to congratulate her. While some speculated that AEW right unveil a new title design on Friday, some could not wait for Sunday’s bout between Baker and Shida.

While AEW has been criticized for poorly booking its women’s division, Shida has tried her best to carry the division to the best of her capabilities.

She is a well-liked character and delivers great matches regularly. With a new brand like AEW, it was pivotal to have a reliable face in the women’s division, something that Shida has done remarkably well.
