NWA EmPowerrr on Saturday (8/28) was the first-ever all-women pay-per-view in NWA history. Hence, it is feasible that former AEW, IMPACT, and WWE star, Awesome Kong, chose this platform to announce her retirement.

During the show, women’s wrestling icon and fellow producer Gail Kim appeared. As she addressed the crowd, the trio of Taryn Terrell, Paola Blaze, and Jennacide cornered her.

However, Kong appeared and attacked them. She saved the day for Kim as the trio ran off. However, Kong was not done with Kim. As the latter was leaving, Kong called her and had some heartfelt words to say.

“Now, some of you may not know, but I’m not much for words. It’s been a hard hard year in the Kong residence, and only one thing could get me off my couch and away from the delicious ice cream bars and that’s this woman (Kim) right here,” Awesome Kong said.

She continued, “And I said to myself if I’m going to go out, I’m going to go out with the toughest h** I know, I love you. I’m done, and I love you Gail.”A huge ‘Thank You Kong’ chant broke out in the crowd.

Still shocked by the announcement, Gail Kim said, “I really, really am at a loss for words right now. I don’t even know what to say to you right now. You’re so special to me, and we will always have a bond for life. Thank you Kong.”

The two wrestling icons and legendary rivals then embraced each other. Both women were crying as the crowd cheered for Kong for her two-decades-long career.

“An all Women’s pay-per-view run by a woman and a group of women supporting that, and I couldn’t be prouder. I just, like I said, ‘so emotional’. I’m at a loss for words,” Kim concluded.

Kong has had one of the most decorated careers in Pro Wrestling. She is a two-time Impact Knockouts champion and onetime Impact Knockouts Tag Team Champion. Under the name of ‘Kharma’, she also had a brief stint with WWE and became the third woman to enter the men’s Royal Rumble.
