Kurt Angle was last seen in WWE as the special guest referee for the NXT ‘Fight Pit’ match between Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher. He retired at the hands of Baron Corbin in 2019 and was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017. He has expressed no desire to return to in-ring action since his retirement at WrestleMania 35.

When asked why he chose Miro as his dream AEW opponent he responded, “Do I need to explain why? The ‘Olympic Hero vs The Bulgarian Brute’. He’s an exceptional performer.”,reported by Alex McCarthy.

Miro is currently tagging with Kip Sabian. The two are feuding with the Best Friends on AEW Dynamite after Trent and Chuck destroyed Miro’s video game. He has been cast in the role of a heel due to the alliance with Sabian and his fiancee Penelope Ford.

Miro pitched to face Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 31

It’s common knowledge that Miro did not want to face John Cena at WrestleMania 31. Instead of facing the ‘Leader of the Cenation,’ he wanted to face Kurt Angle.

He said, “The first year when I was with WWE I pitched for Kurt Angle to come back and wrestle me.”  The plans fell through, however, and we saw Cena beating Rusev for the US Championship at Levi’s Stadium.

The possibility of seeing a Miro vs Angle is close to zero. It is surprising that Angle chose Miro over the likes of Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley and Adam Page. The former WWE Champion must obviously be a huge fan of Miro to choose him over some of the best wrestlers in the world.

Miro’s future at AEW is certainly bright. He will definitely be putting on physical matches with AEW’s top talent.

The opportunity to wrestle Kurt Angle is a privilege he never had. Even during Angle’s stint with the company as Raw General Manager, he never crossed paths with Miro. A submission match between the two would be an incredibly satisfying display of wrestling that we will never be able to see.
