Cody Rhodes went to battle with WWE one more time and won once again. However, this time the battle was in the courtroom and not a fight for viewership and ratings.
Rhodes and WWE legal teams have been in a long time dispute over the trademark Cody’s kayfabe surname. HeelByNature has confirmed that the cancellation was confirmed Wednesday morning by WWE.

WWE had originally had trademarked the Cody Rhodes in the year 2009. Those days Rhodes was a WWE employee. The trademark of the name was valid for 10 years.
Usually, under normal circumstances, The United States Patent and Trademark Office gives trademark holders a six-month grace period to renew. However, WWE did not use that time period to renew it.
WWE no longer wanted the trademark for “live performances by a professional wrestler.” However, they wanted to claim the trademark for “entertainment services, namely, performing in wrestling exhibitions; providing wrestling news and information via global computer network”. While Rhodes won this legal battle he could not succeed to win another two.
Cody Rhodes failed to win two other trademarks from WWE
The American Nightmare recently gave up his fight for two more trademarks due to opposition from WWE. One year ago, Cody tried to trademark two WCW PPV’s called “Slamboree” and “The Match Beyond.” These were WCW PPV’s before WWE bought the company.
Earlier on September 24th, WWE had issued a notice for both filings as they owned WCW’s intellectual property when they purchased the company.
However, Rhodes attorney Michael E. Dockins filed an “express abandonment” request. This request stated Rhodes is no longer interested in the trademarks and will withdraw his interest.
