AEW has seemingly broken the forbidden door wide open as NJPW star Kenta featured and even wrestled on Dynamite. With the massive number of dream matches that could potentially take place between the two promotions, Cody Rhodes is in the spotlight.

As one of the top stars in the business, there are a lot of dream matches fans have mapped out for Cody should the crossover take place completely.

“I’m all AEW, but I’m not blind to the potential of these crossovers,” admitted Cody, speaking to New York Post. “I do think when travel restrictions lift, perhaps there are crossover matches, the dream matches that are available for us. I know in my heart that there is somebody I’d love to wrestle from New Japan. I didn’t get the opportunity and time is running out on that opportunity.”

Cody Rhodes wants to fight the likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi

Speculating on the possibilities of opponents in NJPW, Cody Rhodes wants nothing but the best. ‘The American Nightmare’ entertained the thought of fighting colossal stars, some of whom have imaged to gain a 5-star match rating from Dave Meltzer.

“I’m a big fan of The Ace (Hiroshi Tanahashi). I like to challenge myself and they have a great roster in terms of (Kazuchika) Okada, Jay White, and of course (Kota) Ibushi, who I got to wrestle so many times, and many people,” explained Cody.

“(Tomohiro) Ishii, my gosh. There’s some good potential there for crossover elements and good friendly relations, but I also want to never forget that we have a loaded locker room of men and women who are champing at the bit to get in this two-hour time slot and I always look at AEW first. Just respectably to any other company, I’m probably the most guarded up when it comes to crossovers,” concluded the former AEW TNT Champion.

Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, and Chris Jericho are all extremely familiar with wrestling against Japanese stars. They have all been involved with NJPW to an extent over the years.

There will not be much of a problem when the styles clash against each other, which makes the crossover all the more tempting. Now that Jon Moxley has Kenta, will Cody find himself a rival from NJPW?
