The tragic demise of Brodie Lee has sent the wrestling industry into a meltdown. Wrestlers across promotions have taken to social media to celebrate the life of the great wrestler. Twitter has now become a haven for superstars to narrate stories from the life of Jon Huber, the father, and also Brodie Lee, the wrestler.
Lee’s son faced Kenny Omega for the AEW Title
I remember reading last week that Brodie Lee’s son got to pin Kenny Omega and win the #AEW World Championship as a special dark segment following last week’s Dynamite tapings.
How beautifully heartwarming yet poignant is that news now?
RIP, Jon Huber.

Gary Cassidy of Inside the Ropes brought one such story to light. According to him, Brodie Lee’s son got the chance to face Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship. Brodie Lee Jr. had the chance to go one-on-one with the best wrestler in the world, something his father did not achieve.
Lee’s family were in attendance at the December 17th edition of AEW Dynamite. After the show went off the air, the Elite and the Dark Order engaged in a brawl which turned into an AEW Championship match. The eight-year-old applied a rear naked choke on Omega, who tapped out. Justin Roberts announced the winner and new AEW Champion: Brodie Lee Jr.
Last week, I read about how Kenny Omega "lost" the AEW Championship to Brodie Lee's son. I didn't put much thought into it at the time, but now, it has more meaning. Brodie Lee got to see his son's first match before passing away.
Props to AEW for giving them this moment. pic.twitter.com/Ire1BFD2Q4

It is a shame that this touching moment was not available as a video or photograph. However, this incident has gone viral due to Gary Cassidy and a multitude of other wrestling journalists who witnessed or read about the dark match. Jon seeing his son compete in the ring before his demise is a wholesome yet macabre thought.

Debuting at the start of the pandemic era, Brodie Lee made an instant splash in AEW. His popularity and talent warranted an AEW Championship opportunity at AEW’ biggest PPV, Double or Nothing. The loss to Jon Moxley halted Lee’s momentum, but he regained the confidence of the fans via an outstanding demolition of Cody Rhodes.

Lee destroyed Cody for the TNT Championship in August. The loss reverberated across the wrestling business, announcing the Dark Order’s arrival in the big leagues. Lee’s rematch with Cody which had a dog-collar stipulation attached to it is one of the best matches of 2020. Lee lost absolutely nothing in defeat.
It is unfortunate that we lost such a great human being and a terrific wrestler in Jon Huber. However, his legacy lives on in both WWE and AEW, where he did what he does best- take people’s heads off with devastating lariats, and make the world a better place with his kindness.
