Former Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has launched a new furniture line called Rove Concepts. The five-time Grand Slam champion has been indulging her entrepreneurial side since bidding adieu to tennis.

While her pet commercial venture, global candy line ‘Sugarpova’, has been going great guns, the 33-year-old Sharapova has also been exploring entrepreneurial opportunities in her other areas of interest.

Sharapova also co-owns ‘Supergoop’, a cosmetics and skincare range specializing in UV protection, with investor Holly Thaggard. While one of her other known areas of interest is design, the gorgeous range of new-age furniture marks a step towards turning this particular interest into commercial success.

The makers have teased a new advertisement on YouTube, showing the two-time French Open champion showing off a range of eye-catching furnishings.

In her voiceover, Sharapova goes on to detail the ideas that went into designing the new collection.

As the frames shift from one exquisitely styled piece of furniture to the next, the Russian is heard saying, “Through travel, I was able to find my passion for art and architecture. And then I thought, what more could I present to the world if I continue to explore my passions?”

Introducing her new collection, she says that curiosity for design and art is what led her to engage creatively with Rover Concepts.

“This collection was inspired by the intention of blending natural tones and materials to create a piece of functional art,” Sharapova says.

She adds that the new furniture range marks a meeting point of art and comfort and “evokes a moment of relaxation”.
