What is the Beijing Winter Olympic Mascot?
The Olympic Committee has announced the official mascot for the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 which will kick off on February 4th.
The mascot for this Olympics is a giant panda, named “Bing Dwen Dwen”. The “Bing” stands for “ice”. That fits perfectly, because what is the Winter Olympics without some snow? It also signifies purity and strength.
The “Dwen Dwen” stands for robust and lively and stands for all those athletes who will be participating in the Games. Additionally, it also signifies children.

The Olympic committee described it as “a giant panda with a suit of ice, a love of winter sports, and a heart of gold!” on their official Twitter post.
The Beijing 2022 Organising Committee organized a global competition for this mascot. There were over 5,800 submissions from China and 35 countries around the world for this.
The panda is actually China’s one of three national animals, so it was no surprise when the giant panda was chosen for the Winter Olympics 2022. In fact, was a panda was one of the five Fuwa mascots of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The creator of the mascot and its design
The “Bing Dwen Dwen” has been designed by Cao Xue. Xue is a chief designer at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
The giant panda wears a full-body “shell” made out of ice. This resembles an astronaut suit, which was designed in honor of all the new technologies which are being put to use. The shell also helps the panda skate, ski, and snowboard. These three are typically the main highlights of the Winter Olympics.

The face of the “Bing Dwen Dwen” also has a bright halo around it, full of beautiful colors. These colors represent the latest advanced technologies of the ice and snow sport tracks at the Games.

Lastly, the mascot also holds a red heart in its palm, which signifies the hospitality of China towards its athletes and spectators.
