Who is Rhea Ripley? 

Demi Bennett is an Australian professional wrestler who has been signed to WWE since July 2017. She is more commonly known under the ring name Rhea Ripley. She began competing under her real name in the independent circuit. The WWE star participated in the inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017. Ripley would be part of the initial roster of NXT UK, becoming the inaugural women’s champion as well. She was promoted to the main roster on RAW after her stint in the NXT from 2019 to 2021. 

Rhea Ripley’s Early Life 

Ripley was born on October 11, 1996, in Adelaide, South Australia. She is of Italian descent on her mother's side. She grew up in the beachfront Adelaide suburb of Glenelg and attended Henley High School during her adolescence. The former NXT Women’s Champion attributes her childhood inspiration to watching The Miz. Bennett is also trained in or practices swimming, karate, rugby, netball, and soccer. She supports the Adelaide Football Club.

Ripley is currently engaged to wrestler Matthews Adams, aka Buddy Matthews. The two announced their engagement in August 2023. She shared a picture of her kissing Adams on the cheek with the caption. They haven’t shared any plans or a timeline for their wedding yet.

Rhea Ripley’s Career Timeline

Ripley began her wrestling career in 2014, competing for Riot City Wrestling (RCW) before joining WWE in 2017. After reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 Mae Young Classic, she joined the original NXT UK roster and went on to win the inaugural NXT UK Women's Championship in August 2018. 

After a stint with NXT from 2019 to 2021, during which she won the NXT Women's Championship and became the brand's first member to defend an NXT Championship at WrestleMania, WWE's flagship event. She was then promoted to the main roster on Raw and joined The Judgment Day in 2022.

Ripley made her main roster debut on Raw on March 22, 2021. She challenged Asuka to a Raw Women's Championship fight at WrestleMania 37. Asuka accepted the challenge, and the two competed on Night 2 of WrestleMania 37. At the event, she defeated Asuka to claim the Raw Women's Championship for the first time in her career.

Charlotte Flair entered the picture when she intervened in the title battle between Asuka and Ripley the night following WrestleMania. Finally, the three women battled at the WrestleMania Backlash PPV, where Ripley successfully defended her title by pinning Asuka.

Flair and Ripley would then meet in Hell in a Cell, where Flair would lose by disqualification. However, the Queen would win the title belt in Money in the Bank. She failed to reclaim the championship in a triple-threat match against champion Nikki A. S. H. and Flair at SummerSlam on August 21. Over the next several weeks, Ripley formed a tag team with Nikki A. S. H., and on the September 20 episode of Raw, they defeated Natalya and Tamina to win the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. Ripley and A. S. H. lost their titles to Carmella and Queen Zelina on the November 22 episode of Raw, bringing their reign to an end after 63 days.

At WrestleMania Backlash on May 8, 2021, Ripley cost AJ Styles his match against Edge and revealed herself to be a part of The Judgment Day. Ripley won a fatal four-way match to become the top challenger for Bianca Belair's Raw Women's Championship. She was supposed to meet Belair at Money in the Bank on July 2, but she was pulled out because she was not medically cleared to compete; Carmella took her spot.

Ripley won the women's Royal Rumble match on January 28, 2023, from the #1 rank by eliminating Liv Morgan, who had entered the fight as #2. Ripley's triumph made her the fourth wrestler and first woman to win the Royal Rumble as the first entrant. In the following episode of Raw, Mami issues a challenge to Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women's Championship, which later be renamed the Women’s World Championship, at WrestleMania 39. She would win the belt back after a long period while also taking her match to critical acclaim. She would then successfully defend her title in Backlash and Night of Champions against Zelina Vega and Natalya, respectively. 

Mami would go on to defend her title every time it was contested in 2023, leading into Wrestlemania 2024. On the April 8th episode of Raw, she was attacked backstage by Liv Morgan, where she suffered an arm injury, and had to vacate the title and the belt after reigning for 380 days. She tied the record with Bayley for the longest holder of Women's World Champion.
