The preliminary card opener for UFC Fight Night: Waterson vs Hill saw Flyweight Sabina Mazo earn a slick submission victory. “The Colombian Queen” showed extreme toughness in her bout against Justine Kish as she weathered the early storm. What’s more, the win extends her UFC streak to three, adding the first stoppage win since September 2017.

The end came late into the third round as Mazo landed a crisp head kick that changed the entire fight. She followed her opponent to the ground and maneuvered herself into a secure dominant back position, via Spinnin Backfist. Moreover, had the fight continued to play out, she would have probably lost the plot on the judges’ scorecards.

UFC Fight Night: Waterson vs Hill- Sabina Mazo vs Justine Kish

Chiefly, Sabina Mazo has gone 3-1 during her stint in the UFC that started back in March 2019. She came into the promotion with significant experience from the LFA promotion and was touted as a prospect. Her most recent outing against Kish proved that she could overcome the initial adversity and chase the finish.

Justine Kish has had a mixed run in the company as of late, however, her initial run showed her stock. Although she is 1-3 in her last four outings, she holds wins over Nina Ansaroff and Ashley Yoder. She will have to go back to the drawing board and navigate through her current less than stellar UFC run.

Hard core MMA fans had their sights set on the aforementioned opening bout for a card that slid under the radar. Both women are exciting prospects in the women’s 125-pound division and have shown promise in their UFC runs. Additionally, the Flyweight division is in constant need of game challengers given the dominant champion simply dispatching of the former.

The division is being spearheaded by Valentina Shevchenko, who has exerted herself on her opposition. Fighters in the weight class have offered very little in terms of resistance to “The Bullet” in her fights. As mention before, the promotion is on the lookout to push fighters on a streak towards contention. A win over another big divisional name will push Sabina Mazo to the next level.
