After the blistering start to the season, Fernando Alonso has fallen down the cracks and how. The Spaniard who was getting into the top three regularly hasn’t seen the podium since Monaco. Alonso made bold claims about this downward spiral and blamed the sole manufacturers of F1 tires. However, not just the Pirelli Motorsport Director, but Alonso’s claims were opposed by his fellow countryman Carlos Sainz as well.
Alonso claimed Aston Martin’s struggles started after $5.3 billion giant, Pirelli, introduced the new tires at the British GP. Alonso made these claims after his worst finish in a race in the season so far. However, the Ferrari man opposed the Spaniard, as he felt no difference in the tires, which all drivers got the opportunity to test. Pirelli’s Motorsport Director Mario Isola seconded Sainz in comments quoted by Formula Passion.

“We did not see or perceive any difference,” commented the Ferrari driver.

Pirelli’s Motorsport Director Mario Isola also jumped on the wagon. He said, “Nothing has changed. The profile, the rolling radius, the footprint on the ground: everything has remained unchanged.”
Isola also pointed out how all the drivers tried the new tires in Barcelona before their introduction in the British GP, “And no one felt any difference.”

Alonso made the bold claims of fighting for his third championship after his blistering start to the season. However, since then, the Spaniard has been knocked down the pecking order. Despite that, the soon-to-be 42-year-old is enjoying being competitive and fighting for points at this stage in his career.

“As this is a medium and long-term project, I don’t know if I’ll be here when the team is ready to win (the World Cup)… But I always have in mind to be there, because as long as I feel fast and still have fun, it will continue. Why should I stop? Right now I’m having fun,” said Alonso.
