The Los Angeles Lakers are celebrating their 17th NBA championship title, all thanks to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The duo brought back the Larry O’Brien trophy to the Staples Center for the first time in 10 years.
Winning this championship has helped both superstars bolster their legacies. James now has a much better standing in the GOAT status, while AD has become a champion for the first time in his career.
If LBJ and AD stay together for a few more years, they will have a strong case to become one of the best duos in Lakers’ history. 5-time NBA champion Michael Cooper recently joined the “Battle for LA” podcast discussing the future for the duo. He said:

“I am gonna make a bold prediction. When the Lakers win a championship now, they will win the next three in a row. Obviously, they are gonna have to have some replacement people coming in… LeBron is on a mission to not just win championships, he wants to set himself apart and he is the closest one we have had since Karl Malone that can possibly catch and break Kareem’s scoring record.”
James and Davis on the individual level are without a doubt top-5 players in the league. But, as Cooper pointed out, the purple and gold still lack a legitimate third player on any given night. Instead, they have multiple players such as Rondo, Kuzma, and Caruso who may or may not deliver 15-17 points each night.
The Lakers also still need to find a consistent 3-point shooter to fill the inconsistencies of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Danny Green.

Even in the 2019-20 NBA season, the majority of the media held other teams over L.A. to win it all. However, now that they are the champions, the scenario has changed. LeBron James has proved once again that he is far from done yet. James produced a stunning output of 27.6 points per game in the playoffs.

LeBron will soon be turning 36 soon, but the King is yet to show any signs of decline in his game. If LBJ keeps up these numbers for the next few years, there is no doubt that the Lakers will be more than capable of three-peating.
What do you think? Are the Lakers in a position to complete a three-peat or not?
