Apart from working hard at the gym, there’s one thing that bodybuilders can absolutely not mess with; their food! In the words of Jay Cutler himself, “the food is everything.” In a sport like bodybuilding, the right diet can either make or break someone’s chance of winning the competition. From intensive workouts to an enormous diet, the participants are always on their toes to secure a win.

However, it’s not just Cutler who has talked about the importance of diet. Even 8x Mr. Olympia Champion Ronnie Coleman shared his diet plan to reiterate the fact that diet is a non-negotiable part of the sport.
Jay Cutler and his superhuman diet plan
Jay Cutler reigned supreme in the realm of bodybuilding after he de-throned the eight times Mr. Olympia title winner Ronnie Coleman. Cutler did not just leave the bodybuilding stage as a new winner but also went on to carve out his legacy. As he sat down for a talk with Fitness Volt in April, he revealed how instrumental diet was in his success.
He said, “haven’t competed for eight years, and I weigh about 230 (lbs).” When he was in his prime, he weighed 270 lbs plus. For the unversed, he used to eat around 5,000 calories a day and had over seven meals a day. His monstrous diet usually consisted of beef, 140 egg whites, chicken, and broccoli. He never compromised with his diet.
To stay in his best form, he used to eat every 2 ½ hours. He also revealed that “guys like Dorian Yates and Ronnie Coleman” motivated him to push his limits to the farthest. When he read the magazines, he learned about their diet and what were the right things to eat. This helped him to prepare accordingly. Thus, he was not alone in following such a ‘monstrous diet.’

Much like Jay, Ronnie followed a diet plan wherein he consumed 5,000 plus calories daily. In his prime, Ronnie regularly consumed protein powders and other supplements besides 450 grams of chicken, eggs, lean meat, potatoes, grains, beans, and veggies.
His daily diet consisted of 150g of fat, 474g of carbohydrates, and 546g of protein. Talking about his secret mantra, he once said, “hard work and training. There is no secret recipe. I train hard with heavy weights and try to be the best in the world.”
