People put serious allegations against Serena Williams after her 2009 US Open outburst against the line judge. However, that did not phase her. She had dealt with people’s criticism before, so she knew she could handle it.

But what she could not and did not want to go through was the scrutiny from elder Jehovah’s witnesses. Church and The Bible have always been an integral part of Williams’ life and she knew that she would have to give some answers after that incident.

After the 2009 US Open outburst where she lashed out at the line judge for making a wrong call, Williams received a lot of criticism. But that did not phase her a lot. She knew she was not wrong. However, in the church, she knew she had to be answerable.

In an interview with People, she said, “They had to have a talk with me. And I knew it was coming.” But Williams had felt sidelined as she stated, “I just felt really bad, though, because it’s like, that’s not who I am.” She detailed the process and stated, “They just talk to you. They show you Scriptures. Not ministers; they call them elders.”

With a justification, she said, “It’s almost like a reprimand, but it’s not bad because in the Bible it says God loves you, and if someone reprimands you, they love you.”

Serena Williams herself is a Jehovah’s witness at the moment and that forbids her from celebrating her birthday. Jehovah’s Witness is the amalgamation of the Old and New Testament Christianity.
