A resounding 58% of EssentiallySports readers voted No, when asked if Scottie Scheffler will finally end his dry spell at Shinnecock. Only 33% backed the world No. 1 to deliver. The skepticism runs deep—one reader argued Scheffler 'no longer has that it factor,' pointing to on-course tantrums and caddie clashes as proof he's lost his edge. Another bluntly said it 'should have happened before now' if he was ever going to conquer a brute like Shinnecock. Even a fair-weather fan admitted they'd 'take the field against him in any tournament,' citing the depth of today's game. Believers leaned on intangibles, praising Scheffler's mental composure and priorities, with one noting he 'knows how to deal with the pressure.' But the numbers don't lie—the majority sees Scottie's Shinnecock chase ending the same way his recent majors have: short.

I don't know that I think he will win, but I think he's got a very good chance and I hope he pulls it off. I really wanted Phil Mickelson to win the US Open, but unfortunately each time he was close, someone played a little better.

Hope springs eternal. Just like the greens at Shinnecock.

He can win ONLY if he's on the same page as his caddie.

He has his head on straight. He knows how tho deal with the pressure. Bottom line…Scottie has his priorities straight. Win or lose, live goes on.

Scotty is slacking on his talents. Not hungruy. Hes like indifferent. If i win o.k. if i dont o.k. golf not my life. WTF. Sounds childess an disrepectful to golf and others. Maybe he needs a media coach on his team

Scottie no-longer has that “it” factor… He’s no longer feared, sharp on the course and lost his professionalism. He curses, berates his caddy and throws tantrums, not exactly exhibiting someone who has control of his game or himself… Sure he could win anywhere /anytime but he’s no longer the “guy”. In his favor is the fact that no one has stepped up to fill the void… The clock is running as someone will eventually take over the game for their time in the sun. So it goes… over & over…

All of the players are really good. While some are more "consistently good" most have the ability to go really low on a round. Put two of those rounds together and a player is tough to beat. Scotty is up against 120 or so such players at every Major except the 90 or so at the Masters. I am a Scotty fan but I would take the field against him in any tournament if I was placing a bet.
