Polish driver Robert Kubica is inching closer and closer to a race seat in Formula One but the question is, with who? While Renault seems like the obvious choice following his various tests with them, some reports suggest that the French manufacturer may be looking in the direction of Carlos Sainz Jr. This might leave the him out of the running for the Renault drive. But, amid news that Felipe Massa’s gaze may be turning towards Formula E, a seat with Williams could be on the cards.
Kubica to Williams
If Massa were to leave, Kubica’s inclusion would still be honouring the Williams-Martini contract of employing at least one driver who is over the age of 25. But Felipe feels that he still has something left in the tank. But in case he decides to hang up his boots, Pascal Wehrlein, Sergio Perez and Kubica could come knocking. With Wehrlein failing to meet Martini’s age standards and Perez on Renault’s wishlist, the pendulum swings in the latter’s favour.
Though Williams have fallen by the wayside in recent times, the recruitment of Paddy Lowe will boost the team immensely. The 32-year old is a free agent and can join any team that is interested in him. Renault does not own him, even though he tested for them. They even moved him closer to a reunion with Formula One.
