Fernando Alonso is set to miss the season opener next week in Australia on medical terms  owing to his crash on the final day of the second Barcelona Testing which knocked him unconscious. He spent three days in a hospital before being released and had to miss out on the last four days of the Testing, handling the car to Kevin Magnussen.

Today, McLaren confirmed tests had found “no evidence whatsoever of any injury” but that doctors had recommended the Spaniard sit out the opening round of 2015 to minimise the chances of second impact syndrome. The statement said doctors had conducted “an exhaustive series of tests” which found him entirely healthy from a neurological and cardiac perspective.

The mystery behind the Spaniard’s crash has filled the paddock with several rumours. While McLaren’s official statement said that sudden gusty winds knocked his car to the side, other sources speculate that Alonso was electrocuted and thus knocked unconscious way before the car hit the gravel, citing safety concerns of the Honda Power Unit. What actually happened remains much of a mystery till now.

McLaren which is already in a grave situation right now, with a poor winter testing program, faces much tougher task ahead of them, as the man that they thought would resurrect them to any glory has to sit out of the car.

Kevin Magnussen, McLaren’s reserve driver will take Fernando’s place alongside Jenson Button. Whether Alonso returns in the second race in Malaysia or not, is still under consideration by his medical team.
