After being suspended for months, the tennis season is finally returning. The first Grand Slam that is going to be played is the US Open but sadly, many players have withdrawn from the event. It looked like Alexander Zverev would do the same but he confirmed his participation just a few days ago. However, there is a catch to his appearance at the event.

Alexander Zverev Without David Ferrer

Very recently, Alexander Zverev hired David Ferrer as his coach. The Spaniard retired from tennis last year but he clearly couldn’t leave tennis completely. At first, he worked on a trial basis but later, his partnership with Zverev was confirmed.

As his coach, many would expect Ferrer to travel with Zverev to the US Open. However, that did not happen due to his contract. In an interview, the Spaniard revealed that the agreement limits him only to tournaments in Europe. So, the Zverev-Ferrer alliance will only be seen at the Italian Open, the French Open, and the ATP Finals – but not in New York.

Zverev is surely going to miss Ferrer at the US Open especially since he was looking forward to working with him. A few weeks ago, when the German was asked about why he hired Ferrer, he had a lot of complimentary things to say about him. He said that he has worshipped him throughout his career because Ferrer was so mentally strong. And in addition to that, he felt that his personality went well with David’s.

The German, however, is not going to let this affect his game. He is going to try to achieve one of his biggest goals at the US Open – winning a Grand Slam. He has been trying to win one for years and hopefully, he’ll hit the mark in New York.
