Toni Nadal, who will not be travelling with Rafa this year, thinks that Djokovic in his peak was far more superior to Federer in 2017. Federer beat Nadal four times in 2017. However, this did not stop Toni Nadal in making a bold statement about Federer. He recognized the fact that Federer had stepped it up a notch in 2017, but Djokovic was hampered by injuries and so was Murray. According to Rafa’s uncle Toni, he said that Djokovic in 2015 was better than Federer’s 2017 form.

“Rafael is the best tennis player in history on clay, Federer on grass and Djokovic on a fast court. I think that as Djokovic played two years ago (in 2015) he was unstoppable, more complete than Federer. It is true that Federer has given an extra this year, but when we went out to play against Djokovic I did not know which way to choose to beat him’, said Toni.

He also went on to say that, Djokovic was unlucky to have played in Federer’s era, as Federer always stole the limelight. However, he says that it has been a treat from a neutral’s perspective to watch tennis in the fab-4 era.

‘Coinciding with Federer and Djokovic has been bad luck, but at the same time good for your tennis. The three have forced themselves to raise the level because they knew that winning with their best shot was no longer enough. When there is obligation we do it much better’,

While Djokovic’s participation in the Australian open is still a doubt, Nadal has already reached Melbourne and has begun his preparations. Federer, meanwhile will be playing in the Hopman cup finals, alongside Belinda Bencic later today. Federer has looked sharp from the word go and is the favourite to win the first slam of the year by a country mile. Will Federer’s 2017 form continue in 2018?
